Buffet created a little over 8,000 pieces during his lifetime between paintings, drawings, and print editions. His style is immediately recognizable, and this of course, makes it possible to identify his work on stylistic grounds. This is usually not sufficient for the art market anymore, and additional confirmations of authenticity are often required.

In cases where some of the owners are known, we are usually able to reconstruct the chain of ownership because it was not so many years ago that he died (1999).
